Question
Is it necessary for an Ashkenazi man, about to be married, to have an Aufruf? If the answer is yes, can it be on any day the Torah is read? Can this same man decide to have an Aufruf according to the Spharadi way, which I believe is the Shabbat after the wedding? The bride to be is Spharadi.
Thank you for taking the time to read and respond.
Answer
An Ashkenazi groom should be called to the Torah on the Shabbat before his wedding, as is the Ashkenazi custom. If it is more convenient for him to have a party or a kiddush on the shabbat after the wedding- there is no problem in deferring the kiddush or the party, but he should be called to the Torah on the Shabbat before the wedding.
