Question
Dear Rabbi,
I am a Ben Noach.
Are Bnei Noach obligated to say blessings on the food or for smelling a spice etc. as the Jews do?
Kind regards.
Answer
Bnei Noach are not obligated to recite any blessings just as they are not obligated to pray regularly.
They can recite blessing or pray voluntarily. They can even use the Jewish blessungs and prayers as long as they skip or change all the parts which are reffering to Jews only, such as “God of our forefathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. One does not want to say any lies in his prayer, as it says in Psalms 101:7. “…who speaks lies, will not be established before my eyes”.
Bnei Noach should pray in any case of distress and suffering such as an illness or if one cannot make a living.
(Based on Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim 199:4. Igros Moshe Orach Chaim 2:24).
