Question
The longest parsha (naso) has 176 passukim, the longest gemara/masechta (bava batra) has 176 passukim and the longest perek in tehillim has 176 passukim. Why do you think that is?
Answer
ב"ה Shalom, I found no early sources dealing with this question, but only sefarim from our generation which found this intriguing. Now the amount of pages of Baba Batra is not something which was done by ru'ach Kodesh, since it came about when in later generations holy sefarim were brought to print. There is no early division of Gemaras into pages , only chapters. Nevertheless, after the fact, many sefarim have offered different explanations for this interesting phenomenon. However, all the explanations are by way of allusion= Remez or " Sod"= mystical (esoteric) meaning, which are in depth fields of thought which I don't deal with. However, I will share with you one short and sweet idea which I found in a sefer called: on page 383. אסף מהמזכיר 176 equals the word צוף which is (honey) nectar. And this hints to the passuk in Tehillim 19:11 הַנֶּחֱמָדִים מִזָּהָב וּמִפַּז רָב וּמְתוּקִים מִדְּבַשׁ וְנֹפֶת צוּפִים: "more desirable than gold…and sweeter than the drippings of the comb.. The letters word נפת hint to the following : The Nun refers to Baba batra which in נזיקין which also starts with a נ. The פ hints to פרשת נשא and the ת refers to Sefer תהילים. which are all sweeter than honey. All the best
