Question
hugging and kissing relatives:
Shalom rabbi,
I used to live in Canada but now called Eretz Israel HOME!!
Next week בית ה, i will be visiting my son and grandchildren in Toronto.
The question has come up that I will also see my adult nieces and nephew (some of them are Charedi) which I am very close to and kiss them and hug them.
My other son who is Baal Tshuva and lives in Ramot north of Jerusalem tell me its absolutely forbidden to hug and kiss a nephew of which I consider like a son (I am an elderly woman, 74 years young).
My son in Ramot knows my heart and my ways of kissing and hugging those close to me (I wont even mention how I will "kill" my grandchildren with love, hugs and kisses!)
I am baffled. Am I breaking any halacha laws?
Answer
Firstly, congratulations and Mazal Tov upon your Aliya!!
As we wrote previously, it's not only allowed but commendable and natural to kiss your children and grandchildren. Just regarding nephews who are not young children, it's a problem, and your son is correct.
