Ask the Rabbi
Question
We grow parsley, oregano and other spices in our yard. Should we take off trumot and ma’asrot?
Shlomo
Answer
Shalom Shlomo,
Spices which you planted and didn’t grow wildly are obligated in tithing (trumot and ma’asrot), except for black pepper and the like which cannot be eaten on its own, and is just mixed in without being recognizable, which is exempt.
