Question
I have felt a call to study Judaism all my life, though I was not born Jewish. Only recently, with the help of a good friend, have I realized what this calling was. I have been enjoying my studies! Recently I worked up the courage to ask my mother if we had any Jewish family. She told me about my great grandmother, her fathers mother. Apparently I have her hair. Due to anti-Semitism, she did not pass her faith down to my Grandpa, and the connection was lost. My friend does not think there is a word for people like me, but has explained that this was a sadly common occurrence. I was wondering if you could recommend any books or resources on the topic. I would love to hear about other peoples experiences coming home, and how they found their way. Thank you for your time. I really appreciate it.
Answer
I'm not familiar with any explicit work or book about that, but there is an interesting phenomena which is sort of parallel about which has been written, where you can Google: Returning Marranos, who were Jews forcibly baptized to be Christians (usually around 1492 and the expulsion of Jews from Spain) yet are interested in reconnecting with their Jewish roots.
