Question
My daughter just gave birth, but her husband is going to be in Uman! We don't know if she'll be out of the hospital on RH, and if so, she and the baby will probably be by us. I don't want to trouble my wife or our friends to come out, especially if many wake up early for vatikin. I'd like to hear your suggestion.
Answer
Firstly, MAZAL TOV to u, your wife and the parents- שתזכו לגדלו לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים!! The main Shalom Zachor is when the baby is present, but it's also the minhag/mitzva of the baby's father to take care of! If the baby's in the hospital, there's no reason for you to trouble yourselves in your own home. If the baby is by you, there is an inyan, but it doesn't have to be a big "shindig", so nothing big "falls on you alone". I also understand and admire your not wanting to trouble people, מבחינת טירחא דציבורא, but if your daughter probably would appreciate your doing something, and may even be offended if she and the baby are by u and u don't do anything. So if the baby is by you, I would suggest doing something small, like buying some Arbis and a little Araq, and just do it for your immediate family and maybe just a neighbor or 2 or 3 who really want to share in your simcha, that way you can achieve all of the goals as well as family, and religious chovot. B'Smachot of צרות עשירים!! כתיבה וחתימה טובה!
