Question
Hello Rabbi, i have a few questions: 1. I ate an orange but didn’t wash it. Is that bad? 2. If i do not do morning hand washing upon waking up and instead do it 30 mins-1 hour after waking up and using the bathroom, can I still say the prayer? Additionally, i do the washing in the bathroom. my parents wouldn’t want me doing it in my room and it would get messy. 3. If i am handling money do my hands have to be clean 4. Do I have to wash my hands before i eat? If i didn’t does it render the food not kosher?
Answer
Thanks for your excellent questions! 1. There's no need to wash oranges. 2. Yes, although it's best to wash twice, once immediately upon rising (even in the bathroom) and the second time right before prayer. Washing in the bathroom is fine, but if you can do the second washing in the kitchen, I don't think your parents should mind! 3. No, but it's a good idea (no obligation) to wash them AFTER handling money for cleanliness reasons. 4. No, it doesn't render the food non-kosher, but you should definitely try washing hands before meals (especially for cleanliness). It's only obligatory before eating bread. Feel free to keep asking such good questions!!
