Is the size of one’s Tallit merely a matter of custom or preference? Is it inappropriate or ridiculous for an adult (6 foot) to wear his bar-mitzvah tallit (shawl style, 57 1/2" x 11)?

One's Tallit should be large enough to cover him from the head to the knees - a Tallit is not a scarf.
