Question
In my daily Bible reading I have passed the phrase "Waheb in Suphan" (Vahev B’Sufa) can you please enlighten me as to the meaning?
Answer
The verse describes the wars G-d waged for the People of Israel against the Amorites. Some commentaries explain that the words you mention refer to places of battles; others, basing themselves on the Midrash, write that "Suf" refers to the Red Sea (Yam Suf in Hebrew) and Vahev means "gave". The meaning of the verse according to this explanation is that the miracles surrounding Arnon were like those given us at the Red Sea.
