תניא, רשב"א אומר, מוצל אותו צדיק מאותו עון ולא בא מעשה זה לידו, אפשר עתיד זרעו לעמוד על הר עיבל ולומר "ארור שוכב עם אשת אביו", ויבא חטא זה לידו.
א. החטאים, שהם [עבירות על] יסודות המוסר ונעוצים יפה בטבע הקדושה הפנימית של הנשמה הישראלית, הנם מורשה לקהלת יעקב (ע"פ דב' לג, ד), לתעבם מצד טבע הקדושה של המוסר המורשי של קדושת ירושת אבות.
ב. כדי להוציא מן הכח הגנוז אל הפועל את הטבע הפנימי הישראלי למוסדות הצדק, נצטוינו בהתחלת כניסתנו לא"י להביע מחאתנו הכללית על כל פורע מוסר ועושה נבלה, חוץ מאותו הצד העליון שכבר נצטוינו על כללה של תורה ופרטיה, מצד ההכרה הכללית הנעוצה בעומק הטבע של הנשמה של האומה כולה, "ואמר כל העם אמן" (דב' כז, כ). הטבע של תיעוב הרע והנבלה שבא בירושה, מורשה לנו מאבותינו הקדושים, מעיד לנו על עצם טבע הטהרה שהיה קבוע בנפשם הם, לשנא את הרעות והדברים השפלים והמגונים הללו, שהם עולבי נפש האדם הישרה, האלהית, עד שא"א כלל שתמצא איזו פעם בנפשם נטיה לגיעולים כמו אלה.
ג. גם המטרה העליונה ששתה החכמה האלהית, במה שסבבה שהאומה הזאת, הנבחרת להיות לעם קדוש לד', תהיה מצויינת בעומק טבעה לקדושה תכוּנית ע"פ מורשת אבות, היא הִטביעה ביותר את חוזק הטבע בנפשות ראשי גזעינו לשרשי הקדושה והצד הכללי, עד שלא יתכן שתניח חפצה מידה לפגום את כל יסוד מגמתה. וא"א ג"כ שבמקום שכ"כ נתחזקה ההכרה בתיעוב הנבלה, עד שהד קולה של כללות האומה יצתה ב הר עיבל, לומר "ארור שוכב עם אשת אביו", ויבא חטא זה לידו, נגד תכונתו העצמית, שיצתה כ"כ חיה ואמיצה בבנים, בתכונה כ"כ אדירה ועמוקה.
2. ויקרא פרק כ- (יא) וְאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר יִשְׁכַּב אֶת אֵשֶׁת אָבִיו עֶרְוַת אָבִיו גִּלָּה מוֹת יוּמְתוּ שְׁנֵיהֶם דְּמֵיהֶם בָּם:... (כב) וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם אֶת כָּל חֻקֹּתַי וְאֶת כָּל מִשְׁפָּטַי וַעֲשִׂיתֶם אֹתָם וְלֹא תָקִיא אֶתְכֶם הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי מֵבִיא אֶתְכֶם שָׁמָּה לָשֶׁבֶת בָּהּ: (כג) וְלֹא תֵלְכוּ בְּחֻקֹּת הַגּוֹי אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי מְשַׁלֵּחַ מִפְּנֵיכֶם כִּי אֶת כָּל אֵלֶּה עָשׂוּ וָאָקֻץ בָּם: (כד) וָאֹמַר לָכֶם אַתֶּם תִּירְשׁוּ אֶת אַדְמָתָם וַאֲנִי אֶתְּנֶנָּה לָכֶם לָרֶשֶׁת אֹתָהּ אֶרֶץ זָבַת חָלָב וּדְבָשׁ אֲנִי יְקֹוָק אֱלֹהֵיכֶם אֲשֶׁר הִבְדַּלְתִּי אֶתְכֶם מִן הָעַמִּים:
