1. הראי"ה קוק, עין איה שבת ב, סי' רמב על שבת לג ע"א
"סימן לעבירה הדרוקן".
א. ההכשר לקלקול פנימי עד השפלות של הריסת המוסר היסודי, הוא מוכרח להתחבר עם המון קלקולים רבים קודמים לו, שכבר קלקלו כמה מכונות פנימיות בכחות הנפש.
ב. כי הרבה כחות מוסריים בעומק הנפש חנן השי"ת לאדם, שהם עומדים לו כתריס מלפול שדוד בהשפלה הירודה של הפסד כללות המוסר והקדושה העליונה שבהוד נפשו .
ג. ע"כ לבצר את כח ההרס, מתגלים קלקולים רבים פנימיים בעומק הפנים החמרי , מכות חדרי בטן, וכל דכאות לב פרטית מכוונת לעומת שרירות לב נפשית מיוחדת, עד שירומם האדם ע"י דכאות רוחו להתקדש ברוממות נפשו כראוי לו. "תשב אנוש עד דכא ותאמר שובו בני אדם" (תהלים צ, ג).
2. הראי"ה קוק,אורות, "חכם עדיף מנביא"
א. לחדר לתוך-תוכם של כל הגורמים הפרטיים, איך מכשירים את החיים ומעמידים אותם על הבסיס הטוב ואיך משמרים אותם מכל קלקלה גם קטנה שבקטנות, שסופה להעלות שרטון גדול ולהרס הרבה מאד, דבר זה אין לו עסק עם כח-המדמה החם והעז, כי-אם עם החכמה המדיקת. כאן תחל עבודת הרופאים, החסכנים, המודדים, השופטים, וכל החכמים המעשיים.
ב. השערות הדקות , שמהן מצטרפות עבות-העגלה של החטאת, גידי- החיים הדקים, שמהם ישרגו מזרקי-הדם הגדולים, אלה המה המסתרים הצפונים מעין כל נביא וחוזה. המצוות המעשיות כלן ופרטי הלכותיהן, בכל דיוקם הנמרץ, איך בהמשך-הזמן על-ידי קיומם ותלמודם, הרגלם וחבתם, יצא הנעם הפנימי החבוי בהם, וזרם-החיים האלהי הטהור יגרש בעזו את חשכת עבודת-אלילים מבלי תוכל עוד קום, ואיך העזיבה האטית המזלזלת במעשים, בענפים ודיוקים, מפתחת דרך של הרס, מאבדת את הכלים שבם יקלט הרוח העליון, וממילא יצר לב האדם, הדמיון המתעה המלא ציצי זהר מבחוץ ואבק רעל מבפנים, הוא הולך ועולה מאליו, – דבר זה לא נתן לנבואה בכלל, לנבואה של אספקלריא שאינה מאירה.
3. הראי"ה קוק, עין איה שבת א, מג, על דף יב ע"א - ת"ר הנכנס לבקר את החולה בשבת אומר "שבת היא מלזעוק ורפואה קרובה לבא".
מציאות התחלואים פועלת פעולה טובה על תכונת האדם, על ידם האדם נכנע מלפני ד', והידיעה של אפשרות החולי למין האנושי פועלת לטובה לרכך קושי עורף של קשי עורף ולבצר זדון רעי לב. אמנם להשלים את הלקח הטוב שמקבל האדם ממציאות החלאים הוא מה שעל ידם האדם מזדקק בטבעו לתפילה , לחלות פני ד' להושיעו בעת צרה ויום רעה.
4. ויקרא טז, כט-ל
וְהָיְתָה לָכֶם, לְחֻקַּת עוֹלָם: בַּחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִי בֶּעָשׂוֹר לַחֹדֶשׁ תְּעַנּוּ אֶת-נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶם, וְכָל-מְלָאכָה לֹא תַעֲשׂוּ--הָאֶזְרָח, וְהַגֵּר הַגָּר בְּתוֹכְכֶם. ל כִּי-בַיּוֹם הַזֶּה יְכַפֵּר עֲלֵיכֶם, לְטַהֵר אֶתְכֶם: מִכֹּל, חַטֹּאתֵיכֶם, לִפְנֵי ה', תִּטְהָרוּ.
5. שמואל א, ז,ו
וַיִּקָּבְצוּ הַמִּצְפָּתָה וַיִּשְׁאֲבוּ-מַיִם וַיִּשְׁפְּכוּ לִפְנֵי ה', וַיָּצוּמוּ בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא, וַיֹּאמְרוּ שָׁם, חָטָאנוּ לה'; וַיִּשְׁפֹּט שְׁמוּאֵל אֶת-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, בַּמִּצְפָּה.
6. יונה ג, ה
וַיַּאֲמִינוּ אַנְשֵׁי נִינְוֵה , בֵּא-לֹהִים; וַיִּקְרְאוּ-צוֹם וַיִּלְבְּשׁוּ שַׂקִּים, מִגְּדוֹלָם וְעַד-קְטַנָּם.
7. יואל ב, יב
וְגַם-עַתָּה, נְאֻם-ה', שֻׁבוּ עָדַי, בְּכָל-לְבַבְכֶם; וּבְצוֹם וּבִבְכִי, וּבְמִסְפֵּד .
8. אסתר ד, טז
לֵךְ כְּנוֹס אֶת-כָּל-הַיְּהוּדִים הַנִּמְצְאִים בְּשׁוּשָׁן, וְצוּמוּ עָלַי וְאַל-תֹּאכְלוּ וְאַל-תִּשְׁתּוּ שְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים לַיְלָה וָיוֹם--גַּם-אֲנִי וְנַעֲרֹתַי, אָצוּם כֵּן; וּבְכֵן אָבוֹא אֶל-הַמֶּלֶךְ, אֲשֶׁר לֹא-כַדָּת, וְכַאֲשֶׁר אָבַדְתִּי, אָבָדְתִּי.
9. הראי"ה קוק, אורות הקודש ב, עמ' תסט
והרע... זהו הטוב המתהוה , הטוב העולה, הפורח... לולא זה האושר הגנוז, לא היתה העין רואה, שגם הרע המוסרי איננו כי אם טוב מועט.
