מסכת שבת דף נו ע"א
אמר רב, כי מעיינת ביה בדוד לא משכחת ביה בר מדאוריה, דכתיב "רק בדבר אוריה החתי" (מלאכים א, טו) . אביי קשישא רמי דרב אדרב, מי אמר רב הכי? והא אמר רב: קבל דוד לה"ר! קשיא.

אביי קשישא רמי דרב אדרב, מי אמר רב הכי, והא אמר רב: קבל דוד לה"ר, קשיא.
מי שנפשו המוסרית היא בריאה וחזקה, אע"פ שיכול להיות שיזדמן לו מקרה היוצא מכלל תכונתו, ויעבור ואשם באיזה פרט באופן שלא יהיה להמעשה ההוא ענין ויחש מכוון עם ערכו הכללי, אבל לא יתכן זה להיות רק במקרה של כח המתעורר מצד עצמו, מצד התגברות איזו תכונה זרה או איזו מחשבה בלתי ברורה, וכאדם יעבר ברית (עפ"י הושע ו, ז) מבלי משים. אבל שיהיה האדם הבריא לגמרי במוסרו מושפע מאחרים באיזה רפיון מוסרי, דבר זה לא יתכן, כי בטבע כל נפש הוא למצא את התגברותה העצמית, בשעה שאחרים באים מן החוץ לשלוט עליה ולהמשיכה בדברים אשר לא כפי רוחה. ורק אם ימצא באדם איזה רפיון תכוני, אז יהיה רך, להיות נכפף להשפעה הזרה של אחר במה שהוא שלא כשורה, אבל אם יהיה טבע נפשו אמיץ, אז ימצא מיד העז הפנימי היוצא במחאה על כל מה שבא מן החוץ לשלוט עליו, ולא רוחו. ע"כ, בהיות התכונה הכללית אמיצה, והמגרעת המקרית איננה קשורה בכלל מסכת הנפש, א"א לומר שיקבל לה"ר בעשיית מעשה שלא כדת ע"פ השפעה חיצונית.
כיצד בפועל לדון לכף זכות
א. החיוב לדון כף זכות לפי ההלכה
ב. הדן את חבירו לכף זכות המקום ידינהו לכף זכות
ג. אי ידיעת פרטי המעשה בשלימותו
ד. המעשה נעשה בכוונה טובה
