Question
I just read: The Torah’s Instructions to Non-Jews—The Laws of Bnei Noach
Im a little confused for a couple of reasons:
The written word of God clearly states that Israel will have ONE manner of law, the same for the foreigner as for the native. So we are all accountable to the same moral & civil codes, for sure.
Also, what would the rabbi tell Ruth? Was not Ruth, a Moabite Gentile, fully accepted as a Jew when she chose to follow Naomis God? There are numerous examples of this. Gentiles even exist in the Davidic line.
So what about Ruth?
Answer
Hello and blessings,
According to the Torah, Gentiles are commanded to keep the Seven Noahide Laws. A Gentile who converts becomes Jewish and is obligated in 613 commandments. Ruth converted and accepted upon herself all the commandments (613). Converts are equal to born Jews and are obligated just like Jews from birth. The meaning of the verse "one law" is that converts who have converted and become part of the Nation of Israel are obligated just like born Jews.
All the best!
