Question
I rejoined Jewish community after being away for years. I still dont feel "too religious" ( never have) and have trouble believing in God. But still I feel good to belong to at least somewhere. What would be good and easy steps to start my journey. There is no congregation anywhere near where I live.
Answer
Welcome back!! If there's no congregation near where you live, may I suggest joining weekday or Sunday activities even in more distant communities where you can travel by car. Also, read up as much as possible about current events in Israel (there's always something interesting going on!!), combatting anti-Semitism in various cities, etc. to gradually feel more attached to the nation of Israel, which seems to be more appealing to you than the religious aspect, for both are great and totally legitimate, for even a totally non-believing Jew is 100% Jewish! Even reading up on Jewish Nobel Prize recipients or successful Jews in their respective fields strengthens one's Jewish pride. If you are not married, I strongly suggest attending Jewish singles meetings and weekends which are held all around. For sure try and visit Israel as soon and as often as possible, which will surely help you feel at home, where we have the "home-court" advantage, where more or less observant Jews from all over the world get together, and unite as one.
