Question
Hi......I am trying to clarify if men can shave above the sideburns with a #2 guard shaver. Related to this, the person who cuts my hair uses a scissors and appears to keep the blade even further from the skin than the #2 guard. However, the downward motion of the scissor may be "plucking" some hair(s) without the blade touching the face. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Shalom,
From what I have seen, #2 guard leaves up to 1/4 an inch of hair which is 6 millimeters.
In the Hebrew counterpart of this website, Rav Dvir Meisels summed up the opinions of how much hair must be left on the face , so that the shaving should not be considered a "Ta'ar" a razor.
The more stringent and commonly accepted opinion is to leave at least 5 millimeters of hair. The more lenient opinions , when necessary allow 3mm. So, if the #2 guard leaves 6mm, you are in the clear with that and you may use it.
There is no prohibition in plucking out hair from one's beard. The problem is with a razor as has been said.
