Question
we added water from our urn to our cholent on shabbos. the spout of the urn was over a foot away from the cholent. we waited before pouring from urn for steam to dissipate. however when the hot water reached the cholent it seemed to steam again. I am not sure wether all from hot water or also from cholent. do we need to be concerned that urn became fleshing? if yes what can he done? thank you
Answer
ב"ה Shalom Since you kept a distance between the cholent and the urn, we can assume that the steam rising from the cholent to the urn was not at a temperature of "Yad Soledet Bo"- in which a hand is scalded. The temperature of "Yad Soledet Bo" according to Rav Neuwirth zt"l in Shemirat Shabbat Kehilchata is 45◦C or 113°F. Therefore, the urn and the water in it remain pareve. All the best
