Question
Hello rabbi, Id like to know what is the difference between the Talmudic calendar and the calendar of the Torah. The Torahs year begin at Nissan month. Why the Talmud is different? Thanks you very much for your answer. Shalom!
Answer
There is no difference between the Talmud and the Torah. The Talmud is the Oral Torah explaining the written Torah. Tishrei is the beginning of the year “Rosh HaShanah” as counted since the creation of the world. Nissan is the first month in the count of the months, since the Exodus from Egypt. “This month shall be to you the head of the months; to you it shall be the first of the months of the year” (Exodus 12, 2).
