Question
Does a first born male born via c-section need Pidyon Haben? If yes, why since there was no actual "opening of the womb". If not, why not, as he is the first born?
Answer
The Torah states that the first boy to "open the womb" of his mother should be redeemed.
A C-section baby does not meet that requirement and is exempt from this Mitzvah (Shulchan Aruch YD 305 17)
