כתנאי, "פחז כמים אל תותר", ר"א אומר, פזת חבת זלת. ר' יהושע אומר, פסעת על דת, חטאת, זנית.
א. עצם הרעיון לפסע על דת בשביל שום מטרה שבעולם, אפילו כשאומר בלבו שישיג בזה תכלית טובה ומעולה, הוא ג"כ דבר מזיק.
ב. אמנם אם יזדמן שיעשה כן אדם לצורך תכלית נשגבה מאד, צריך שיהי' בטוח שיגיע לתכליתו ולא יחטיא את מטרתו, כ"א לא ישיג את המטרה הלא הפר דת בלא תועלת, ונתן לפורצים מקום לפרוץ גדרות עולם.
ג. ועוד, שהאמצעי צריך שלא יהיה אמצעי שפל ומסוכן להתפרץ ע"י אנשים שאינם הגונים ביותר, וכאן חסרו התנאים, שפסעת על דת אמנם עשית זאת מגדולת הנפש, שנתכונת למטרה נשאה ועליונה, ולא יכולת להיות מוסגר בזה ברתוקות המדה המצומצמת בסדר הדת הרגיל, אבל הלא חטאת ולא הגעת כלל להמטרה שאליה ערגת, כי סוף כל סוף לא באלה הדרכים הבלתי כבושים כלל פועלים על התקדמות הסדר, נוסף ע"ז שהאמצעי הוא נמוך ומסוכן.
ד. זנית, שבשעת עליית הנפש לאותה המדרגה, לפרוץ לעצמה דרך גדולה וחדשה, צריך האדם שיהיה מנוקה ומרומם מכל שפלות וראוי לחירות העליונה שבקדושה, רק אז יוכל להיות שיצליח דרכו לעלות למרום הרים, "עלה הפורץ לפניהם פרצו ויעבורו שער ויצאו בו ויעבור מלכם לפניהם וד' בראשם"

2. שבת דף נד ע"ב
פרתו של ר"א ב"ע היתה יוצאת ברצועה שבין קרניה שלא ברצון חכמים.
הראי"ה קוק, עין איה שבת ה, י על מסכת שבת דף נד ע"ב
א. ... ולעולם יותר מסוכן הוא הצד השני, הטועה לחשוב שאפשר לבסס צורה של חיים שלמים במחוסרי אברים, ולהשאיר רק את התאים או התא המיוחד שבו המרכז מתכנס כשהגויה שלמה, באין הבין שהמרכז הוא נכבד רק בהשלמת הצורה לכל פרטיה...
ב. ע"כ יזדמן שיצא איזה מכשול פרטי דוקא מגדולי גדולים, איזו עזיבה של דקדוק, המביא לעורר את המחשבה הכללית לשוטט אל הדעה המקורית, ולהשכיל כי הפרטים המה ממבועי הכלל, ושלא מצד עצמם הם נכבדים כ"א מצד כח הכלל הצפון בהם. ולפעמים דוקא אדם גדול וכללי, המשוטט בצדדים העליונים של הכללים, ישגה באיזה פרט שנעלם ממנו לשעה ערך קישורו אל הכלל...
ג. ע"כ, עם כל עליוניות המטרה שיש במכשול היוצא מגדולי הרוח, מ"מ מכשול הוא ואינו עומד במעלת התיקון הנעלה של כח הבנין של בוני העולם, ת"ח המרבים שלום בעולם*, אל תקרי 'בניך' אלא 'בוניך', שרצונם כבר הוא מלא חכמה וכליל יופי, עד שאנו משכילים יפה ש פרתו של ר"א ב"ע היתה יוצאת ברצועה שבין קרניה... שלא ברצון חכמים.

אגרות ח"א עמ' קמז שמשיב לו הרב: "אין יסוד לבריחה ממצוות מעשיות," ובאגרת אחרת בעמ' קעג, "כבודו מרים על נס את ביטול המצוות של לעתיד לבוא... מה שנראין דבריו (של רש"א) לפעמים, כאילו הוא דוחק את הקץ של אותו לעתיד לבוא הרחוק שמצות בטלות בו, ולהעמידו דוקא בתקופה שלנו, המלאה שברון והתמוטטות, שהיא צריכה בנין ממשי ואימוץ מעשי דוקא," ובעמ' קעד, "כבודו מוצא סימנים להאנרכיזם הליברלי המוסרי ביהדות."
