Question
What is the Bibles view on how we spend our time,on things like philosophy, music, personal growth, self mastery, gardening,,time with animals etc
Answer
Shalom,
Thank you for your question. According to Judaism, one’s major endeavor and focus in life should be to align oneself with G-d’s will. This is a very wide definition, and expresses itself in different ways to different people. Firstly, the Jewish people have a particular pathway outlined for them, and the non-Jews a different one. Both are important, and both involve trying to improve one’s behavior and inner character traits.
As to the activities we will involve ourselves in – assuming that we are talking about things that are in and of themselves good, and not problematic – the choice is open for each individual to make. One person will find themselves able to benefit, and benefit the world, by studying, and another person will do better being out in nature. But whatever we do, we should have in mind that our ultimate goal is to grow in goodness and holiness.
I hope this is of some help,
Blessings.
