Question
Cains punishment from G-d is to wander. and then it says he does settle in Eretz Nod. How is that possible?
Answer
ב"ה Shalom , Your question is well in place and the commentator, The Redak= Rav David Kimchi (France 1160- 1235?) addresses the issue. Firstly, he explains, the name of place called "Nod , comes from the word "Nad" which itself means being mobile and not settled in one place. In addition, he says he was in eastern Eden far from his parents and neither was there a permanent dwelling since it was decreed upon him to wander. However, he did stay in this particular place for a while. His wife and children stayed in Nod while he was wandering and he would go there and back to see his family repeatedly. Based on this, we can understand that although he did stay in Nod for some time, his wandering did not cease there. All the best
