Question
In my adult Bible study class this morning, we read Exodus 12: 1-14. Exodus 12:9 says; "Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; its head with its legs and with the inwards thereof." The questions that was asked of me is if this was how sheep were traditionally eaten, entrails and all, or was there a reason God wanted them sheep eaten this way. Thank you for any help you give me.

Roasting the Paschal lamb in this fashion is a specific Divine commandment in regard to this sacrifice. The commentators on Exodus 12 offer some explanations why the Paschal lamb was eaten roasted. Some say so that the smell of the roasted meat would be smelled well by the Egyptians so they know their god is being roasted. Following this line of thought, the commentators also explain why it was roasted " its head with its legs and with the inwards thereof" meaning basically that it was left whole so while it was being roasted it would be recognized as a lamb which was the Egyptian god.
