Question
Since the dough of a real New York bagel is parboiled prior to the baking process, itโ€™s mezonot. Is this correct? Thank you.
Answer
Shalom uvracha, The bracha is hamotzi even if the bagel is parboiled prior to the baking process. this is the case of a regular bagel. If however the bagel was made with fruit juice or eggs and has a very sweet taste that makes it something that people eat as a snack and not for a regular meal the bracha would be mezonot. (See the Mishna Berura's explanation of the Shulchan Aruch (168;7)) All the best!
