Question
Since the dough of a real New York bagel is parboiled prior to the baking process, it’s mezonot. Is this correct? Thank you.
Answer
Shalom uvracha,
The bracha is hamotzi even if the bagel is parboiled prior to the baking process. this is the case of a regular bagel. If however the bagel was made with fruit juice or eggs and has a very sweet taste that makes it something that people eat as a snack and not for a regular meal the bracha would be mezonot.
(See the Mishna Berura's explanation of the Shulchan Aruch (168;7))
