Games on shabbos
Question
Are you allowed to play a game called Jenga on Shabbos? It is a game where you build the wooden blocks up and then slowly remove them until the whole thing falls down. My brother’s friends say because it is only a temporary structure, you are allowed to play on Shabbos. What do you think?
Answer
Dear Chavie:
The general rule regarding games that involve building on Shabbos is as follows: if the structure will be taken apart on the same day, then there is no prohibition. In the case of Jenga, the tower is taken apart as part of the game. So it is permitted.
