א. אע"פ שהדבר צריך להגלות, שיסוד חוזק המלכות, שהוא עוצם העם כולו , תלוי בעקרו ע"פ הערך שהיושר והצדק , שהוא אמתת העז האלהי, קשורים בתוכו, מ"מ ודאי עצם הדבר צריך ודרוש להיות, שהעז העממי יהיה מוחש ומורגש , וכבוד הכלל ועצמתו צריכים להיות במעלה היותר עליונה , שבזה יבוססו כל המטרות היותר טהורות ועליונות.
ב. אמת שלפעמים נמצא עצם הנטיה לאהבת העם בכל רחבה ועמקה שהיא מצויה באומות, שאנו יכולים להתלמד מהן ג"כ לענינינו, אבל לא באותה המדה שהיא מצויה בהן. אהבת העם תבוא לפעמים מרוב אהבה עצמית גסה שמתקבצת בקיבוץ גדול ומסודר, ותתגלם בזה ברשעה היותר גדולה , בכח רב ויד חזקה לבלע ולהשחית .
ג. אבל אהבת עם ד' הצריכה להקבע בלב כל אחד מישראל, היא מיוסדת על עומק היושר האלהי הכללי. ומ"מ צורתה החיצונית צריכה שתהי' במילוי העז והמשגב, כאותו המשגב היוצא בעמים שאינם יודעים שום רעיון יותר נאצל מאהבתם העצמית.
ד. בני עמון נקראו על שם בן עמי שנקרא לאביהם מאמו, רגש העממות היה בהם חזק ואמיץ, ועבודה-זרה שלהם נטלה אצלם ציור המלוכה, מלכום שיקוץ בני עמון, המלכות והעממות בחוברת. הטוב שבהם צריך להכניס בישראל "ותהי על ראש דוד", מה חרב בני עמון אי אתה נענש עליו, אף אוריה החתי אי אתה נענש עליו , כי עצם הענין, חק תוקף כבוד המלוכה, עז בידו בצדק גם לדון דיני נפשות למטרתו הגדולה הכללית, שהיא הכרת הדר העם וכבודו הנקשר בכבוד המלוכה, שלא ינקה כל הנוגע בה.
3. בראשית פרק יט, לח - וְהַצְּעִירָה גַם הִוא יָלְדָה בֵּן וַתִּקְרָא שְׁמוֹ בֶּן עַמִּי הוּא אֲבִי בְנֵי עַמּוֹן עַד הַיּוֹם.
4. מלכים א פרק יא, ה-ז- וַיֵּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה אַחֲרֵי עַשְׁתֹּרֶת אֱלֹהֵי צִדֹנִים וְאַחֲרֵי מִלְכֹּם שִׁקֻּץ עַמֹּנִים: וַיַּעַשׂ שְׁלֹמֹה הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי ה' וְלֹא מִלֵּא אַחֲרֵי ה' כְּדָוִד אָבִיו: אָז יִבְנֶה שְׁלֹמֹה בָּמָה לִכְמוֹשׁ שִׁקֻּץ מוֹאָב בָּהָר אֲשֶׁר עַל פְּנֵי יְרוּשָׁלִָם וּלְמֹלֶךְ שִׁקֻּץ בְּנֵי עַמּוֹן:
5. שמואל ב פרק יב, כט-לא- וַיֶּאֱסֹף דָּוִד אֶת כָּל הָעָם וַיֵּלֶךְ רַבָּתָה וַיִּלָּחֶם בָּהּ וַיִּלְכְּדָהּ: וַיִּקַּח אֶת עֲטֶרֶת מַלְכָּם מֵעַל רֹאשׁוֹ וּמִשְׁקָלָהּ כִּכַּר זָהָב וְאֶבֶן יְקָרָה וַתְּהִי עַל רֹאשׁ דָּוִד וּשְׁלַל הָעִיר הוֹצִיא הַרְבֵּה מְאֹד: וְאֶת הָעָם אֲשֶׁר בָּהּ הוֹצִיא וַיָּשֶׂם בַּמְּגֵרָה וּבַחֲרִצֵי הַבַּרְזֶל וּבְמַגְזְרֹת הַבַּרְזֶל וְהֶעֱבִיר אוֹתָם (כתיב:) במלכן (קרי:) בַּמַּלְבֵּן וְכֵן יַעֲשֶׂה לְכֹל עָרֵי בְנֵי עַמּוֹן וַיָּשָׁב דָּוִד וְכָל הָעָם יְרוּשָׁלִָם:
