Ask the Rabbi
Question
Shalom.
Is the name “Elohim” the actual name of God Almighty or it is a name for one of the Babylonians or Cannanites gods?
Answer
The God of Israel has many Names, all of which refer to various Godly attributes and ideals. Elohim refers to Him as Judge (as in Shmot 22, 7). I am not well-versed regarding other cultures and their paganist gods.
