Question
A friend gave me a necklace with the words of the She’ma written on it. I wear it during the day, every day. Do I need to remove it every time I use the bathroom?
Answer
29th sivan 5771, ב"ה
Since your necklace has the Shema on it we must treat it as it were a siddur. Upon entering a bathroom with a siddur or the like one must put the siddur in two covers. One cover may be a pocket. Similarly with this piece of jewelry, you may conceal it under two layers of clothing or put in a bag and in a pocket or a pouch. (משנה ברורה מ:ד )
