Chazan Having Trouble Taking Three Steps Back

As chazan, I was unable to take three steps back after my silent Shemoneh Esrei because someone was davening close behind me even when the gabbai signaled me to start chazarat hashatz. What should I have done at that point?

    Grand Opening!

Why is Kaddish in Aramaic? Isn’t it prohibited to pray in Aramaic and Arabic? In which arm does a lefty hold the sefer Torah? Do I join everyone in reciting Berich She’mei when I am in the middle of pesukei dezimra?

    Missing the Reading II

I will be traveling to Eretz Yisrael this spring, and will miss one of the parshiyos. Can I make up the missing kerias haTorah? I will be traveling from Eretz Yisrael to the United States after Pesach. Do I need to review the parsha twice?

I will be traveling from Eretz Yisroel to the United States after Pesach. Do I need to review the parshah twice? A Minor Doing the Concluding Barchu

At Ma’ariv, a boy under bar mitzvah recited Kaddish Yatom. When he finished, people told him to say Barchu as well. Was that proper? If not, should I have answered?

Unsure if he Recited Birkat Hatorah

Sometimes I am unsure if I recited Birkat Hatorah (=BKHT) and so I plan to remedy the situation by having in mind to fulfill BKHT with Ahava Raba. Sometimes, though, I am not sure whether I had that in mind while I was reciting Ahava Raba. What do I do in such a case?

    Davening in a Minyan

    Minyan Matters

I know that a child may recite the haftarah. Does this require a minyan? We had a minyan when we began saying Aleinu, but when we finished, we were short. Can I still say kaddish? In the middle of the sheva brachos, we lost our minyan. What can we do?

The Mitzva of Praying and its Value

    The Power of Prayer

For many of us the source of our motivation to pray is our belief that we have the power to engage God for our needs. Nevertheless, moments where we fear that our personal lacking and sin will cause God to turn us a deaf ear cannot be escaped.

V’ten Tal U’matar for those Returning Abroad in the Fall

I am in my second year in Israel but have to go back permanently soon, before Dec 4. I started saying “v’ten tal u’matar” on 7 [Mar]Cheshvan. Should I have? Should I stop now, when I get back to chutz la’aretz, or not at all?

    Pray Day

Sasha glanced at his watch. A small delay wouldn’t set him back too much. If the man only needed “a tzenter” – a tenth man – for the minyan, that meant that davening would start as soon as Sasha joined.
