I have been looking at some old documents of my elderly mothers. On her ketuba her late fathers name is written Arieh b. Moshe. But on my grandparents ketuba and on his gravestone is written Yehuda Leib b. Moshe. I know Arieh is the Hebrew equivalent of Leib and often goes with Yehuda. My question is how should I write his name when my mother (PG she should be well) passes on? Should it be Arieh, Arieh Leib or even Yehuda Leib Arieh? Thank you so much, Aviva

Shalom, Thank you for your question. It’s hard to know – the three names, Ariyeh, Yehudah, and Leib are often used (even for the same person) together or interchangeably. So in all probability the names recorded are all names he was known by. Perhaps you should ask your mother what she thinks? Blessings.
