Question
I have a stainless steel wok with a diamond nonstick coating, which is different from a Teflon coating. It was used for dairy. Can it be kashered so that it is parve?
Answer
Shalom, Thank you for your question. If such a wok was used for kosher dairy, and now one wants to use it for parve – it may be koshered by 1) msking sure it is clean 2) not using it for 24 hours (at least) 3) heating it up until a tissue would slightly singe on the inner surface of the pan (that is if you heat it up over the fire it needs to get hot enough that a piece of tissue would slightly scorch when touched to the inner side of the wok.). If it is a large wok, you may need to move it over the fire in several places so that all the surface reaches this temperature (even not at the same time), especially the top edges of the wok that are further away from the fire. This form of koshering (libun kal) works with such a pan because it never absorbed forbidden taste. Blessings.
