Ask the Rabbi
Question
Shavua tov our beloved Rabbi, please answer this question for our community at your convenience. " Why do we remove animal hides ( skin) after slaughter? , Secondly is it a minhag? Thirdly is there a prohibition on eating animal hides. Shalom
Answer
There is no problem with eating animal hides, but it is technically considered not tender and too tough, and accordingly is used mainly for leather (clothes, shoes, etc.) or rugs. The Kohanic priests were often awarded this leather as part of their pay for working in the Holy Temple.
