Question
Shalom Rabbis. I have been hearing different views on this from different Rabbis. Some call him Yah, Yahweh, e.t.c but what is the proper way to say YHWH please?
Answer
Shalom uvracha,
We don't pronounce YKVK the way it is spelled rather we say 'Adonai'. Chachamim said that anyone who pronounces Hashem's name the way it is spelled has no share in the world to come. (Shulchan Aruch, 5:1, Mishna Berura 5:2).
Additionally, we only say Hashem's name when we daven. Some say that when we learn one should mention Hashem's name as well (Kaf Hachaim, 5:11), although, some say that it's better not to while learning (Aruch Hashulchan, 215:2), see also Mishna Berura 5:3, at the end).
All the best
