Question
Dear Rabbi I have been learning for many years. I am currently doing the daf hashavua program and we are currently learning Nedarim. Both my chavrusa and myself are battling with the Ran, and feel as if we are just reading the words but don’t know what is going on. Do you have any advice for us and should we rather do one of the other meforshim? Many thanks Darren Hollander South Africa
Answer
In fact, the Ran is the classic commentary on Nedarim. What I can suggest is to learn with the commentaries of either R. Shteinzaltz or the Schottenstein edition, which, because they are recent and modern, have already dealt with compiling the other commentaries when necessary, when the Ran doesn't suffice.
