This famous part is to my understanding one of the oldest prophecies of the Messiah. Is there other interpretations as well? King David?
Answer
The classic, accepted and mainstream explanation of the Oral Tradition is that it's referring to the Messiah, but there are those who explain otherwise, e.g. the Ibn Ezra explains the following verse as referring to Yoav, King David's general.
