Ask the Rabbi
Question
Is it allowed to paint pictures next week, during the 9 days and week of Tisha bAv? Asking for both Sfardim and Ashkenazim. And please send the source. tysm
Answer
Yes, for the problem is making or embroidering clothes, but the Mishna Brura (551, 54) allows wood works and the like for they are not clothes, and neither is drawing or painting pictures. See also Dirshu (ibid, 64,) who cites authorities who allow camps to sometimes even embroider clothing for if we prohibit such harmless activities, they may very well partake of more harmful activities. How much more so during the hot summers of Israel where outdoors sports activities are impractical during the day hours. There's no difference here between sefaradim and ashkenazim.
