prayer about the gov. and country where you live
Question
thank you so much for helping to understand better-sacred meanings.
question: when Jewish people are in the diaspora there is a prayer for the benefit of the country where they live. How is this prayer call and when is it read? also, How does it work when, for example, Jews live in Ukraine and in Russia and their countries are having a war against each other? thank you and Shabbat Shalom
Answer
The prayer is found in most siddurim before musaf on Shabbat (between Y'kum Purkan and Ashrei). The prayer should also accompany the Prayer for the State of Israel, the Jewish Homeland, also printed there in most prayer-books. The prayer is mainly that God should grant peace, prosperity and wisdom to the Prime Minister/President and the government, and not about winning wars. Accordingly, it doesn't contradict, but rather compliments the prayers of the Jews in neighboring countries.
