Why does the shelrosh on one side of the Tefillin have the letter Shin with four branches and one side the normal letter with three branches?
Answer
This is a Halacha LeMoshe Misinai - a command done with no explanations, as is writen in Shulchan Aruch Orach Chayim 32:2.
