Campfire on Shabbat
Question
We are planning a Shabbaton camping trip and wish to learn whether there are prohibitions against adding to a campfire which was kindled before Shabbat. The fire would not be used for cooking. The wood would be transported to the fireside before Shabbat.
Answer
Under no condition may one add wood to a fire on Shabbat. This is strictly forbidden. On Yamim Tovim (holidays) that do not fall on Shabbat can one add to a fire but one has to transport the wood to the fire before the holiday.
