Question
If someone drives on Shabbat (obviously an Aveira), is it an addition Aveira to listen to music while in the car? What if the radio or tape was already "on" before Shabbat, so when the car is started no action is taken to adjust it and the music just comes out.
I am not trying to justify chilul Shabbat, ch’v, but if someone who is going to drive anyway on Shabbat, maybe the Aveiros can at least be minimized if in fact it is not permitted to touch the radio.
Answer
Driving on Shabbat is so serious an offense that lessening it by having the radio off is like advising an armed bank robber to remember to say “please and “thank-you”.
