Question
Hello,
I have taken on as a new years resolution to be more observant, but there is a problem. the flat I rent is in a cellar and the toilet is operated through a Saniflo which is an electrically operated macerator and pump trigerred by the action of flushing the toilet.. Is it permissible to use such a toilet on the Shabbat?
Answer
It is forbidden to operate or cause the operation of an electric appliance on Shabbat. Therefore your toilet should not be used on Shabbat or should be disconnected from the electric pump for Shabbat, if possible.
