Question
My last name is Levy, but my father is buried in a military cemetery. There are no Hebrew letters on the gravestone. How can I know if I’m a Levite?
Answer
Firstly, being a Levite follows the father, as does your last name, so in most cases that probably means that you are a Levite. Obviously this is only if your mother was Jewish for that's a clear condition, as well.
