Question
Is it halachically okay to eat hot cross buns? are they avoda zorah or just a symbol? also apparently the spices in and raisins on them are supoosed to represent the spices of Yoshkas burial? If i have in my house what should i do
Answer
I asked a prominent and experienced rabbi from England, who answered me that he doesn't recall that rabbis had a problem with the issue. Although a Jewish bakery would probably change the shape of the cross out of sensitivity to their customers. If you already have them in your house and they obviously were baked with kosher ingredients, you can eat them, for there was no religious intention involved, and the shape does not necessarily have religious connotations, like Jews can obviously grow fir trees. Only say, if they were made by a maid or gentile who is a devout Christian it would be a problem, and shouldn't be eaten.
