Question
When someone reads Halftora is it permissible for a woman or girl to provide a translation into English from the Hebrew out loud for all to hear. The situation is that many in my shul don’t understand Hebrew. My thought was that during the recitation of the Haftora, the reader would stop and allow for someone in back of the shul to voice a translation. This would include women and men. There is a mechitza. I always felt that the Haftorah text is something that makes more sense when listen to instead of being read! this would engage many new people in the shul who really don’t understand Hebrew
Let alone biblical poetic Hebrew. The purpose is to engage people who aren’t that familiar with Hebrew and want to be more part of the community
Answer
Such questions must be asked of the local rabbi. In general, tradition is not to have women play public roles in the orthodox synagogue.
