Question
Did the Kohen and Kohen Gadol have to be virgins yet married to serve in the Temple? Can you point out Scripture that states so. Many Scriptures say the woman had to be a virgin, but where does it state the man had to be virgin as well? Thank you
Answer
There is no halachic status or issue of "virginity" by men, in fact all Jewish men, including Kohanim, are obligated to marry and have children. The Kohen Gadol was always married (and accordingly not a virgin), and regular Kohanim were almost always married as well (some even say that a Kohen who isn't married cannot say Birkat Kohanim- the Priestly Blessing, but we don't hold that way, but it just stresses the point and the norm).
