Question
Sarah passed away in Kriyas Arba. Why it says Avraham come to see her from beer Sheva
My question where did he came from? And why?
And where did sarah and avraham lived thst period of time when sarah passed away and why Avraham was away?
Thank you
Answer
Shalom,
There are several explanations.
Rabbi David Kimhi, The 'Radak', (on Genesis 23:2) explains that Abraham and Sarah lived in Kiryat Arba, and Abraham "came" because he was outside the house when Sarah died.
Radak also offers another explanation: Abraham came from another place because he was not in Hebron at the time of Sarah's death.
However, the Sages explain that Abraham came from Mount Moriah (the site of the future Temple), because Sarah passed away immediately after the Binding of Isaac (see Ramban, Rabbi Moses ben Nachman on Genesis 23:2).
There are, of course, other interpretations as well.
See also Rashi, who explains that Abraham came from Beersheba. See the commentaries of Ramban, Mizrachi, and Gur Aryeh for their explanations of Rashi's words.
