Question
In the weekly Parasha we read about the pleasant scent. What is the hidden meaning of this?
Answer
ב"ה
Shalom and Happy Chanukka
My assumption is that you are referring to Bereshit 37:25, that a caravan of Yishmaelim were carrying gum, balsam and resin (translation from: The Living Torah- Rabbi A. Kaplan zt"l) all of which have a perfume like smell.
Rashi simply explains that since Yishmaelim usually carry kerosene and tar both of which have an unpleasant smell, G-d arranged as a reward to the Tzaddik Yosef, that the caravan should have pleasant scented things so he should not suffer from the unpleasant smell.
