Mazeivo
Question
A mazeivo 55 years ago. The fathers name (a great Talmid Chacham, kept Jiddischkeit alive during the war) of the deceased is not written on the mazeivo. What can be done about it?
Answer
ב"ה
Shalom
In the Sefer "Gesher Hachaim" (Vol. I chapter 28) , which is one of the classic books on all the customs of burial and mourning , the author writes that indeed the custom is to write the name of the deceased and his or her father. The custom has been so for hundred of years.
However, the Jerusalem Talmud also mentions a custom in which nothing was written at all.
In addition, we don’t know the reason why the decease's father's name was omitted and there may have been justifications.
Therefore, nothing has to be done as I have also heard from a prominent posek.
All the best
