Orla

Rabbi Daniel Kirsch

Question

Regarding the flowerpot with holes, if one is moving it from inside to outside, or picks it up to move it somewhere, would Orla continue? For maybe during these transitions, the Orla might not always be on a biblical level. (I tried texting, but I don’t think it went through.

Answer

shalom uvracha, There is a machloket about this. Lemaase (the final hallacha) is that we can be lenient about this. Especially in your case that we are talking about orla outside of Israel. (See peninei halacha cashrut- 37;4, comment 11) All the best!
