ומספר פעמים רבי עקיבא חלק על דברים שמסר בשם רבי יהושע ומסרן בלשון אחרת. <br />

לא מצאנו הרבה מאמרים בשמו.<br />

מקום העיר "ברתותא" אינו ידוע.<br />

במשנה במסכת אבות אמר : תן לו משלו, שאתה ושלך - שלו. וכן בדוד הוא אומר: "כִּי מִמְּךָ הַכֹּל וּמִיָּדְךָ נָתַנּוּ לָךְ". כלומר: תן מרכושך לאלוהים, לצדקה ומצוות אחרות, כי מה שתתן לה' - לא משלך אתה נותן אלא משלו, שהרי גם אתה עצמך שייך לה'. <br />

מסופר עליו כי היה נאה דורש ונאה מקיים בהתאם למאמרו זה. בתלמוד מסכת תענית מסופר המעשה על "אלעזר איש בירתא", <br />

כשפגש גבאי צדקה היה נותן להם את כל אשר בידו, עד כדי כך שהם החלו להתחמק ממנו כדי שלא יתן את כל רכושו. <br />
<br />
פעם הלך עם סכום גדול כדי לקנות נדוניא לבתו, וראה את גבאי הצדקה בשוק כשהם מנסים להתחבא מפניו. הוא רדף אחריהם, והשביע אותם שיגלו לו לאיזו מטרה הם אוספים כסף הפעם, <br />

וכשהשיבו שהם עוסקים במצוות הכנסת כלה של יתום ויתומה נתן להם את כל כספו, פרט לזוז אחד. <br />
<br />
קנה בו מעט תבואה ושם במחסן של התבואה. לאחר זמן הגיעה אשתו לבית ושאלה את בתה מה הביא אביך מהשוק עבור הנדוניה, אמרה הבת כל מה שאבא הביא הוא הניח במחסן, הלכה אמה למחסן ובאה לפתוח את הדלת, והנה היא רואה שמרוב שהמחסן עמוס מרוב החיטים, היו יוצאים החיטים מתחת לדלת, והלחץ שנוצר בחדר אף הקשה עליה את פתיחת הדלת.<br />
